How to Make Eco Friendly Tree Sapling Wedding Favors

How to Make Eco Friendly Tree Sapling Wedding Favorsthumbnail
Choose a wedding favor tree sapling that grows with your marriage each year.

Wedding favors are thank you gifts for the guests who attend your wedding and support your marriage. Instead of choosing traditional almonds or chocolates, try a living tree that grows as your family grows. Tree saplings are practical and are easily related to any couple that is concerned about the environment or enjoys outdoor activities. Your wedding guests will remember you and your wedding every time they look at their growing tree.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Fabric
    • Seedling
    • Scissors
    • Poly bags
    • Thank you cards
      • 1

Purchase seedlings from your local nursery. Choose trees that are native to your area. Order your seedlings in advance if you will be purchasing a large number.

      • 2

Measure the height of the root plug. The root plug is the height of the wrapped roots.

      • 3

Set the seedling into the poly bag. The root ball may be moist, and you don't want to ruin what you are wrapping your tree in. Twist the poly bag around the stem and fold it down.

      • 4

Cut a piece of burlap or fabric you will wrap the seedlings base in. Choose fabric that is eco-friendly and biodegradable. Take the measurement of the root plug and add up to 6 inches of fabric on two sides. For instance, if your root plug is 2 inches long, your fabric should be 8-by-8 inches.

      • 5

Set your poly bag-wrapped root plug in the center of the fabric and pull each corner up toward the top of the tree so your roots are covered by the fabric.

      • 6

Select and cut a 12-inch piece of ribbon or string that matches your wedding colors. Wrap the ribbon around the fabric at the top of the root plug. Tie the ribbon in a knot. Tie the ribbon just tight enough so the fabric is secure but not so tight that the seedling cannot breathe.

      • 7

Choose or make a small thank you card that is about 2-by-2 inches. Punch a hole in the upper left hand corner of the card. Print instructions for planting the tree on the back or inside the card. Slip the card onto one side of the ribbon around your seedling and then tie a nice bow with the rest of the ribbon.

      • 8

Place your wedding favor seedlings on each table as a centerpiece, at each place setting or next to the door for your guests to grab when they leave the reception.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Water your tree sapling before placing it inside the poly bag if it will be sitting for a while or in a hot area.
