Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
There are a few key things you need to remember when you are planning on attending an important social gathering, making a first impression, etc. The first of which is "look the part". How do you do that? First personal health and grooming. Make sure you smell good, smell makes a huge impression on people. Next dress the part, call someone if you have to just find out what to wear so you don't look like an idiot but more importantly so you feel confident. Don't show up with shaggy hair and stubble shave and get a hair cut, if your not in shape try and get in shape it will vastly increase how confident you feel and how people perceive you.
Step2
Next "act the part", this is a two part front and the most important. Step number one to this is BE POLITE!!! "if you don't have something nice or funny to say don't say anything at all". DON'T SAY ANYTHING WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT IT FIRST. Make sure you speak to everyone and when someone is talking to you listen and act interested even if your not, also show respect say "Yes sir, Yes Ma'am, Thank you, Your welcome, etc.". Number two grammar don't use slang.
Step3
Third if this is an event were you will be eating a meal, be sure to brush up on your table manners, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES CHEW WITH YOUR MOUTH OPEN OR TALK WITH FOOD IN YOUR MOUTH! No elbows on the table, napkin in your lap , no slurping, take small bites, etc.
Step4
Finally be confident when you speak get to the point quickly or the punch line. Make a confident entrance and exit and just keep convincing yourself you are supposed to be there, you belong. Be careful not to come across as cocky though be humble but certain of yourself. Never invite yourself to anything wait for an invitation. Lastly don't try and be the most charming person there don't dominate the conversation let everyone get their piece in, and DON'T INTERRUPT. If you must practice at home so you can make all these practices a habit. Good Luck!

on 1/13/2008 Smell is important, but don't achieve a good scent by dousing yourself with cologne. Contrary to the Axe commercials, we women like "your" scent, not the perfume industry's idea of what your scent should be.
