Green baby showers are just one of the latest eco friendly baby fads sweeping our nation. You can throw an eco friendly baby shower by using green products at the party as well as buying eco friendly baby products.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Eco Friendly Baby Shower Food and Preparation

  1. Step 1

Use recycled paper for the invitation with non-toxic dyes. Send an invitation that doesn't need an envelope to cut down on paper use.

  2. Step 2

Choose finger food for the baby shower that can be served at room temperature. This will keep you from having to heat or cool foods with appliances that use energy.

  3. Step 3

Serve locally grown fruits, vegetables and other foods. Buying locally grown food supports local farmers and doesn't require as much energy and air pollution to transport them to your area.

  4. Step 4

Serve your finger foods on real plates. You can also use real glasses and silverware. The clean-up will take a little more time but you will not be adding to the local landfill. Be sure to hand-wash the dishes to take this one step further.

  5. Eco Friendly Baby Gifts

  6. Step 1

Search online for websites and local stores that sell eco friendly baby products. You can find a huge selection of eco friendly baby clothes, furniture, and toys on the market today.

  7. Step 2

Encourage guests at the baby shower to bring their children’s old baby clothes that are in good shape, used baby books and other baby items. These can be used by the Mom to be when her child is born.

  8. Step 3

Encourage your baby shower guests to wrap their gifts in a nursery themed fabric. This fabric can be reused by the Mom to be for her new baby. They can use recycled wrapping paper as an option, too.

  9. Step 4

Include the eco friendly baby websites, store, gift ideas and wrapping suggestion on the eco friendly invitations. This way all the guests will know that this is a green baby shower.

Tips & Warnings
  • Organic foods are another option for finger foods and appetizers.

on 10/30/2009 Great ideas for having an eco friendly baby shower! I especially like the part about serving your food on real plates, you don't see that very much nowadays.
Thanks,

on 10/14/2009 This is a great idea - wish I had thought of it when I was pregnant. Two months from now I am throwing a green baby shower for my friend. All your ideas above are very helpful. My friends and I are contributing to give my friend a basic baby collection - bodysuits, sleepwear, baby tees, baby pants from funkoos.com. They have a great variety and their embroidery is really unique and fun. Maoomba.com as mentioned above sounds like a good site - will look into that for invitations.

on 7/22/2008 An organic, ecofriendly diaper cake makes a great and unique centerpiece for a baby shower. I just hosted a babyshower and bought a cake from www.GrowInStyle.com , it was the talk of the party. It was an awesome gift for the mom to be- it contained a bunch of very much needed items that are perfect for an enviornmentally conscious mom to be-- ecofriendly diapers, calendula baby cream, onesies, blanket and more-- my favorite was that it was topped off with an all natural teether- Sophie the Giraffe and had an all natural Natursutten pacifier. It was the most creative gifts ever.
