Anyone with a favorite author is curious about what she looks like, acts like, and what she has to say off the page. But authors tend to be very busy people, or just plain reclusive. However, the NYPL Live series features talks and lectures with famous writers from all over the world, and maybe even one of your favorites. Here's how to hear them at the New York Public Library.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

A library is not the first place you'd expect a hip crowd. The 42nd Street Branch has a great large room that has been host to many events with famous authors, some even providing free drinks.

  2. Step 2

Buy your tickets early as many events sell out. The New Yorker Festival uses this venue as well and never has trouble filling it. See Resources below for a list of events.

  3. Step 3

The seating is first come first serve, so get there an hour early for the prime real estate. There are plenty of bad seats at these events, and they go to the people who show up late. Plan on getting there half an hour early.

  4. Step 4

There is always an opportunity to ask questions at the end, so bring a notebook to write them down. You might get to converse with best-selling authors, world leaders, Nobel Prize winners and other intelligent people.
