To help keep within your wedding budget, you can purchase the materials to make your own reception centerpieces for less than $15 per table.

Make a list. Determine what type of centerpieces you want for your reception and make a list of everything you need to make it. Items may include fresh fruits, hurricane candle holders, candles, sand, glass beads or flowers.

Check local sales. Continually check local sales ads and in-store promotions so you can compare prices. Find the best deal before purchasing items needed to make your centerpieces.

Buy in bulk. Some stores offer discounts when you purchase large amounts of a single item at the same time. Check with local stores to see if any bulk discounts are available for your materials.

Clip coupons. The Sunday paper sometimes has coupons for 50 percent off a single item, 20 percent off your entire purchase or buy one, get one free from your local craft stores. Some craft stores also have coupons online that you can print and bring into the store for discounted materials.

Wash out the hurricane holders. Soak them in warm soapy water, then rinse off with cold water and let completely dry. If necessary, use a window cleaner to remove any residue, fingerprints or dirt.

Add the sand. Place approximately 1 to 2 inches of sand on the bottom of the hurricane candle jar.

Set in the candle. Place it in the sand, twisting it so it burrows down and is secure in the sand. Make sure the candle is level in the hurricane holder.

Place decorations around the candle. Drop in the shells or flowers around the candle on top of the sand. You can also use other decorative items that will complement your wedding's theme and decor.

If your budget allows, tie a ribbon that complements your wedding theme colors around the top of the hurricane candle holder.
If using glass beads, place the candle in the holder first, then spread the beads around it to secure in place.
