How to Create an Inspiration Boardthumbnail
A bulletin board and push pens are the start of an inspiration board for your next project.

An inspiration board is a simple way to gather your ideas about a project together in one space. By pinning items of inspiration to a cork board, you're able to see at a glance the direction you want your project to take. Inspiration boards are common among creative professionals, including artists and designers. Try using one when you are decorating a room, designing a new dress for yourself or refinishing a piece of furniture.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Bulletin board
    • Push pins
    • Twine
      • 1

Collect pictures, swaths of fabric, paint swatches and other items that inspire you regarding a particular project. Find words or phrases in magazines or other printed material that add to the inspiration.

      • 2

Pin the items you have collected to a cork or bulletin board. This allows you to see all of your inspiration at once, and the push pins let you move the items around as desired.

      • 3

Add to your inspiration board as you find other items that contribute to the project for which you designed the board. The board and the project work together, with the board helping you keep your ideas for your project in order and the project inspiring more ideas.

String twine across the bulletin board, about one-third of the way from the bottom. Attach additional items of inspiration to the string using clothespins. This idea adds dimension to the idea board, allowing you to layer colors or textures.

    Tips & Warnings

    • It may be helpful to stick to a color scheme with your inspiration board, especially if you are using it to plan a wedding or party.

    • Be creative! After all, that's the purpose of the inspiration board.
