How to Make an Herbal Face Scrub

This all-natural face scrub is easy and inexpensive to make. The ingredients are cleansing and nourishing to the skin, and the lavender smells beautiful. The slight grittiness stimulates circulation, enhancing the health of the skin. It is appropriate for all skin types and can be helpful for acne.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Rolled oats, uncooked
  • Lavender flowers and/or leaves, dried or fresh
  • Raw nuts like pecans, walnuts, or almonds
  • Blender or food processor
  • Measuring cup
  • Fine-mesh strainer (optional)
  • Storage jar with lid

Step1
Measure out equal amounts of oats, lavender flowers and nuts.
Step2
Put the ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until fine and thoroughly mixed.
Step3
Sift the mixture through the strainer. This step if optional, but if you don't do it, you'll have occasional chunks in your finished product, which you can remove as you use it.
Step4
Put the powdered mixture into a jar. Cap tightly.
Step5
To use the scrub, pour a small amount of the mixture into the palm of your hand.
Step6
Moisten with a bit of water and mix thoroughly.
Step7
Apply to your face and rub gently for a few minutes, inhaling the scent of lavender.
Step8
Rinse off the grains and dry your face.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also leave the scrub on as a facial masque.
  • Experiment with adding essential oils or substituting other dried herbs
  • If you use fresh lavender (or other herbs), use up the scrub within a month, as it will eventually mold.
