Action stars have it pretty good: Pampered and preened, money and machismo, loaded and lean. And, despite their angular facial features and chiseled muscles, they don’t have to do any heavy lifting—that’s what stuntmen are for. But how to become one of these star-powered replacements…?

1. The first requirement for a stuntman may be obvious, but it’s crucial--physical prowess. Practicing gymnastics, martial arts and other sports is a great way to improve your athleticism.

2. Becoming proficient in high speed driving, biking and other extreme sports is another attribute.

3. Stuntman schools across the country operate around the country where stunt wannabes can learn the craft and tricks of the trade from pros.

4. Like an actor you will need an agent. Make a tape of your abilities and send it to agents for consideration.

5. Have your agent send your tapes to stunt coordinators. Coordinators are the people responsible for hiring stuntmen. Currying their favor is the best way to get a job. Coordinators usually only take tapes from agents.
