Mold thrives in places where there is a lot of moisture. Fortunately, most mold us more "icky" than dangerous, and it just requires a bit of diligence to get rid of it. Read on to find out how to get rid of mold in your home.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • soap
  • water
  • rags
  • dehumidifier (optional)
  • squeegie (optional)

Step1
Wash the affected area with soap and water. Make sure that you remove all of the visible mold. Bleach will kill the mold, but it doesn't always remove it. Soap and water will work just fine.
Step2
Once the mold is gone, you need to make sure that it stays gone. This means decreasing the humidity in your home and making sure that things stay dry. You may want to use a dehumidifier to help with this. Or if your mold is in the shower, you can keep things dry by using a squeegie to wipe away water after a shower. Some homes will be OK simply by opening the windows more often.
Step3
Clean often. Frequently cleanings will ensure that mold does not have a chance to grow back.

Tips & Warnings

  • If mold is covering an area greater than 10 square feet, it should be cleaned by professionals.
  • You may want to wear a surgical mask while cleaning mold to prevent allergic reactions.
