How to Break a Child Into Modeling
A spunky, photogenic child has the potential to be a successful childhood model. There are many outlets that offer the opportunity for a child to break into modeling and develop a career. However, becoming a child model is actually quite a time consuming process, and requires both the parents and the child have a large amount of patience. Not everyone is chosen for a modeling career, but perseverance helps give a child every opportunity possible in the modeling business.

1
Bring the child to public or charity events where media is present. Offer to allow the child to participate in promotional photographic or television opportunities for free.
-
2
Create a portfolio for the child. Take photographs of the child in various settings, poses and outfits to show the spectrum of the child's talent. Hiring a professional photographer is recommended for this.

-
3
Contact local photographers about opportunities for free models. Occasionally a photographer will seek to expand his own portfolio and this opportunity benefits both the photographer and the model. Be sure the photographer lets the child use any pictures in her portfolio as well.
-
4
Enroll the child in pageants geared toward the child's area of expertise. Pageants that allow the child to dress up and present herself on stage in front of a panel of judges are best for aspiring fashion models. Other pageants only judge photographs of children; these pageants are best suited for print models.

5
Approach a child modeling agency about representation. Present the agency with the child's portfolio and arrange for a face-to-face interview with a representative to discuss a business arrangement for future modeling jobs.
