If you have a great idea for a book or a short story but you find it hard to sit down and actually write, don't worry. That's fairly common. Here's how to discipline yourself to write every day.
Head to your favorite coffee shop, the park, the beach or wherever suits you if you just can't work at home (my hand is raised). If you're sitting there by yourself, you really don't have much choice but to write.
Step3
Schedule a time to write every day. Dedicate blocks of time. At first, schedule 30 minutes. Some days you may have to write at home and others, you can get out.
Step4
Make a routine before you write. For example, eat a good breakfast, or make coffee. Sometimes your routine will be set (drop off the kid and head to the coffee shop) and sometimes it will not (a meeting gets canceled so you seize the moment).
Step5
Try a writing exercise. "What if?" is a great book full of writing exercises that aren't necessarily related to your project but can inspire you.
Step6
Do a writing exercise every day and soon you will be inspired and so full of ideas that you can't help but write.
Tips & Warnings
Always carry a small pad of paper with you.
If you can afford it, a great inspiration is a writing retreat.
