Step 1
Head to the Public Theater to watch a play. They set aside rush tickets for most performances: come a half hour before curtain and see a show for only $20 bucks.
-
Step 2
Check out a show at Joe's Pub. This small club offers great atmosphere and sightlines for varied acts from Broadway performers to indie-rock groups.
-
Step 3
Head down to 4th Street and walk east and find a number of notable places. The New York Theatre Workshop and La Mama have both been the brithplace of many groundbreaking plays. If you see a show, be sure to eat at Cucina Di Pesce. This intimate italian restaurant has the best pre-fix menu in town. It's perfect for pre-theatre dining.

Step 4
Head further east and discover P.S. 122 on First Avenue, a legendary theatre for dance and theater. While not always good, the offerings are like nothing you've seen before. Across the street, Theatre for the New City offers similar fare but also has a bookstore.

Step 5
Find a small restaurant called Momofuku Noodle Bar on First Avenue. Most of the seating is at a bar around an open kitchen, so it always smells amazing. The specialty dishes are huge bowls of soup with all kinds of meat, eggs and vegetables. This is the perfect place to escape the cold of winter.
