So you have been told by your Doctor (or just want to do it yourself) that you need to give up caffeine and you just love regular coffee and the thought of decaf revolts you. Here is a way to do it without getting the jitters from caffeine withdrawal and to help you like the taste.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Regular coffee
  • Decaf coffee
  • Coffeemaker
  • Water
  • spoons, cup, etc ...

Step1
For first week to 10 days, when you measure your coffee to prepare it, use 3/4 regular coffee and 1/4 decaf coffee. Prepare and drink as usual.
Step2
Next 2 weeks, when you measure your coffee to prepare it, use 1/2 regular coffee and 1/2 decaf coffee. Prepare and drink as usual.
Step3
Next 2 weeks, when you measure your coffee to prepare it, use 1/4 regular coffee and 3/4 decaf coffee. Prepare and drink as usual.
Step4
Finally you are at the stage where you can prepare your coffee with just DECAF coffee. And voila ... no caffeine withdrawals!

Tips & Warnings

  • Use good quality DECAF coffee. Don't go cheapo with this. TASTE is very important. I personally drink Cafe Hag decaf coffee (instant) from Israel and it is YUMMALICIOUS!
  • Hot coffee can burn you! So be very careful when pouring and drinking.

on 6/2/2008 That Method Rocked! The transition was a walk in park.
I felt no withdrawls and I still feel that caffeine perk with decaf.Guess it's just psychological now.
Thanks

on 4/25/2008 I would like to do this, but am afraid that I'll miss it too much! The caffeine really helps get me going in the morning, but maybe that's because my body expects it. Does weaning yourself slowly help with that? Thanks!

on 3/16/2008 Me, give up coffee? Not in this lifetime. But I don't drink any soda - so hopefully it balances out.
