New York City is infamous for its food, arts and shopping. Not only are the majority of corporate offices in the United States located in Manhattan, anyone who "makes it here" can "make it anywhere." It's a dazzling city with an incredible night life and social scene. The old hot spots like Limelight and Tunnel may have been laid to rest, but the new New York night life has plenty to offer. Learn where to find the best Manhattan nightclubs.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Ask a local. A great way to find some hot spots is by asking around. Ask a few bartenders or servers at restaurants where they hang out after work. Ask the barista at Starbucks.

  2. Step 2

Look at the ground. Those street cleaners don't always get to the flyers in time, which can greatly assist an avid partyer. Look for those glossy club flyers tacked on walls or floating along the street. You can often find what specials clubs are running and get a promoter's contacts.

  3. Step 3

Grab a "Village Voice" newspaper. It's one of the most popular papers in the city and it doesn't cost a thing. But, grab it early in the day because come noon, most are gone. They feature great hot spots and restaurants to check out.

  4. Step 4

Skip the ritzy nightclubs if your idea of a great time doesn't include a block-long line and a burly bouncer. Look for a small bar or cozy lounge. There are enough in the city to match anyone's taste and style. Greenwich Village has a plethora of artsy, unique spots to check out.

  5. Step 5

Head down to the Hudson River. Some of the most happening clubs can be found in even the most rugged of buildings. Tons of hipsters grab a cab or subway to make it down to some of the clubs in lower Manhattan.

Tips & Warnings
  • One of the best ways to find great New York nightclubs is by running into them...literally. It's one of those cities that has many unknown dive bars and lounges in places you'd least expect them.
  • If you see a long line in front of a club, you should always try to skip to the front. Walk like you belong and approach a promoter or bouncer. With the right attitude and look, you won't be waiting for long.
  • Don't expect the same night life you experienced in the 80's or 90's. Things have "cleaned up" a lot since then. Though clubs may not be as underground with the cult followings they once had, there's still fun to be had.
