Things You'll Need:
- Sled or cardboard box
- Snow
- Hill
-
Step 1
Buy some sleds at the local discount store. Or, you can make your own out of cardboard boxes.
-
Step 2
Make sure to put on layers of warm, water resistant clothing. Put on snow-pants, hats, gloves (or mittens) and a coat. Underneath, wear 1 or 2 layers of clothes so you stay warm but don’t overheat. Wear 2 pairs of socks in your boots and wear a sweatshirt that you can remove if you get hot.
-
Step 3
Find a good sledding hill. Drive through town, ask a neighbor or a clerk at a convenience store on tips on where to go sledding. Sometimes golf courses have good hills to slide down, and no one minds if you use the space in the winter.
-
Step 4
Get out the sleds and sit down in them. If it’s a round sled, it will be harder to control, but it will be faster and more adventurous. If it’s a traditional long sled, you can use your feet to control it if your feet are on the outside edges.
-
Step 5
Go down slowly at first so everyone gets used to how it feels. You may want to ride together. Have small children sit in your lap, either facing away or towards you.
-
Step 6
Push yourself down the hill and have fun screaming and laughing. Race each other once everyone is comfortable. Just watch for trees and rocks. Steer yourself clear of any obstacles, and be sure there is enough light to see the obstacles. Then warm up with some hot chocolate.
