How to Understand God’s Timing

If there were one thing we could change about God, it would probably be His timing. God is never in the same time zone that we are. He may not even be on the same side of the International Date Line! We need to understand some things about how God’s timing works and the part we play in it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Realize that God has timing for specific reasons. We may want something right now, but we don’t know what other people or circumstances are involved. If you get what you want today, it could set off a chain of events you don’t want.

  2. Step 2

Grumbling about God’s timing will get you nowhere and nothing. If your child asked you for something and grumbled and muttered about your saying “no” or “not now,” you wouldn’t be as prone to give something to him or her, right?

  3. Step 3

Do what you’re supposed to do in your life. Show the Lord that you are ready for what you’re asking Him for. If your son wants a dog but won’t keep his room clean, how will he clean up after a dog?

  4. Step 4

Obey God. God cannot bless you and bring things you want into your life if you are operating in disobedience. Would you give your children what they want if they don’t do what you ask them to do?

  5. Step 5

Keep working and busy. The wait won’t seem so long. Maybe you’re waiting for the Lord to give you a husband or wife. Stay on track with your own life! Go on vacation. Take a class. Volunteer on a church ministry. God will let you know when it’s time.
