How to Travel by Plane and Cope with Not Smoking How to Travel by Plane and Cope with Not Smoking

It was not until the mid-80’s that most major commercial air liners banned smoking on all flights, including international flights. Since then many people have gotten caught smoking the lavatory, or have had a miserable experience while traveling for hours on end with no way to feed their addiction. If you have an upcoming flight and are dreading the time you will be on the plane with out a cigarette, here is how to make it through those hefty few hours.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Get your fix in before take-off. Try smoking an extra cigarette before you check-in to the security gate. This may help stave off the cravings for a bit longer.
Step2
Pop a piece of nicotine gum in once you are seated. Chew that gum once you have boarded the plane. The more nicotine in your blood, the less likely you will be to crave a cigarette.
Step3
Use the peppermint oil trick. If you get a really bad craving you can always sniff pure peppermint oil. It causes the sinuses to relax and lets the brain emit a similar dopamine which counters nicotine cravings.
Step4
Distract your mind with a book. Since most of the smoking addiction is purely mental, do not allow yourself to think about it. Rather, distract yourself with a good book.

Tips & Warnings

  • Quit smoking and live longer.
  • Don’t try to sneak a smoke in the bathroom-they have advanced detectors that will alert the crew of the plane.
