Things You'll Need:
- source of print media i.e. magazines, newspapers, direct mailers
- fees
- Adobe Illustrator or Graphic artist
-
Step 1
Select various print publications that target your market and that are distributed in the vicinity that you operate your business.
-
Step 2
Contact each publication's advertising department and inquire about ad sizes, placements, costs, deadlines and ad requirements/restrictions including color, file size limitations, composition and technical information including file format for ad submission.
Keep these notes organized along with the representative' s name and contact information. -
Step 3
Construct or hire a graphic artist to construct ads for your company in varying sizes according to the information and guidelines that you've collected.
-
Step 4
Each page of a publication is constructed of various size ads. The entire page of each publication must be filled with some type of print, image etc. Left over space that needs to be filled is referred to as remnant space. The closer to publication date, the more likely the advertising representative will be to reduce space costs.
Call the advertising contacts back and make them an offer for remnant space.
Make sure that you have the ability to pay them immediately if necessary. -
Step 5
Even if they decline your offer, you can mail them your various ads in digital format along with a check in an amount that you are proposing.
Although they may have declined your offer, they may in a pinch accept the check and print your ad in that or an upcoming publication. -
Step 6
Advertising representatives often offer discounts for starter businesses or for ads that will run for a term.
-
Step 7
Be sure to request a "tear sheet". This means that you will be mailed the page that your ad is published on as verification of publication and date of print.
