Are you in a situation where you have only one week or so of vacation holiday and you don’t know what to do with it? It’s not long enough to fly to Europe and it’s almost too long to sit at home and stare at the back yard. There is a way to turn this one week into many days of vacation by taking individual days throughout the year. Here are a few suggestions on how to stretch those vacation days and still feel like you’re on vacation.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Calendar
  • Pen and paper
Step1
Get a pen and paper and write down all the things that you would like to do on your vacation time.
Step2
Find out from your employer what the mandate is for taking vacation time. See if it’s possible for you to take individual days spread throughout the year instead of taking them all at one time.
Step3
Book every Friday off that precedes a long weekend throughout the summer, giving you a four day weekend each time. This gives you a vacation each month, with time to spend with your family and friends that you can all look forward to.
Step4
Schedule the days off at Christmas time, juggling them between Christmas and New Years or the weekends around them.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you spread your vacation days out, you can go from having only one week away from work to having a vacation every month throughout the summer and over a week off at Christmas.
  • Just remember, if you are booking the Friday off right before a long weekend, you need to have it arranged in advance so that you don’t miss out on getting paid for the statutory holiday.
