Congratulations! You have just been asked to interview for your dream job. The only problem is that it is in another state. Follow these tips to make the most out of your long distance interview.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Transportation
  • Interview attire
  • Resume
  • Portfolio of work
  • Computer with Internet access
  1. Step 1

Work out transportation to and from the interview and accommodations. Find out if the hiring company will be paying for your travel and hotel expenses, or if you will be required to foot the bill. If the responsibility is yours, decide if the out of pocket expenses will be worth it.

  2. Step 2

Plan your interview attire according the company you will be meeting with, and where it is located. For example, if the interview takes place in NYC in December and you live in South Florida, you may need to purchase some warm weather clothing. Research the company culture to figure out if you should wear a suit or something more casual. When in doubt, go for the suit. It is better to be overdressed than underdressed in this situation.

  3. Step 3

Polish your resume and make several copies. You want to make sure that you have enough resumes to go around as you may be meeting with more people than you expected during the course of your interview. Don't forget to bring your portfolio of work samples.

  4. Step 4

Invest in a good map if you are unfamiliar with the city in which you will be interviewing. Decide on what route you will take to the company and try to test it out prior to the interview. The last thing you want to do is get lost in a new city on the morning of the big meeting.

  5. Step 5

Make sure that you will be able to move if offered the position. Ask if the hiring company offers relocation assistance.
