You have made it through the first hurdle. Your resume has got the attention of the employer. Now how do you handle the interview to land the job?

  1. Step 1

    Do not regurgitate what you have already supplied in your resume. Be fresh. Remember this is your time to sell YOU. What you want to do is persuade him/her that you can implement and apply the education or expertise that you possess to the position. Be confident, not conceded. First impressions are everything. This may be obvious, but here it is: dress appropriately, be polite, no gum chewing or cell phone, and hygiene scores points.

  2. Step 2

    Establish that you want to do the job and that you do not just want the job. There is a big difference between these. A person just wanting a job does not bring the same enthusiasm as those who want to do the work. Here, remember to use phrases such as: I get a great deal of satisfaction from (the work); I enjoy (be descriptive); this work is important to me because...

  3. Step 3

    Demonstrate how you and the company are a match. The employer is looking for this. Do some research about the company before hand. This will help you to discuss your qualifications to meet their needs.

  4. Step 4

    Have a list of questions that you want to ask them. Pull it out, but don't ask what they have already answered. This will show that you are interested in them, are prepared and you have given the job a great deal of consideration.
