The black widow is a fairly shy and reclusive spider that does not want to waste its venom on a big human that they cannot eat. As such, if you take some basic precautions, you can avoid getting bitten by the black widow very easily.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Do not reach into darkened areas without gloves or first checking to be sure they are safe of spiders. Black widows love dark, damp spots so this is very important to avoid being bitten.

  2. Step 2

If you come upon a black widow spider, do not try to remove it by hand. Kill them with a broom or other object long enough to keep them from your skin. If you try to do this carelessly, you will come away with a very bad souvenir.

  3. Step 3

Do not go barefoot outside under any circumstances, especially at night. This is a good idea not only for black widow bites, but scorpions and other dangers as well. Put on some shoes.

  4. Step 4

Keep clothing in air tight containers when stored, and shake them thoroughly before getting dressed. Sometimes the black widow and brown recluse will take up residence in a piece of clothing. You do not want that surprise.
