How to Know When Your Flight Attendants Don't Like You

Some of us are difficult people without knowing it. Some of us are demanding, or just plain aloof at times. Sometimes, we ask for things without saying please and are misunderstood. Other times, we do not realize exactly what someone's job is and beat them up with requests and questions. Too much of anything can be annoying. Here's how to notice on the airplane if you're asking for too much.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If your Flight Attendants are avoiding you--you walk toward them and they walk away before you get there--you have probably worn out your welcome with them.

  2. Step 2

If your Flight Attendants appear phoney--puts on a fake smile through clenched teeth and says "I'll be right back" or "Sure" as they role their eyes and walk away--you may want to go to sleep and leave them alone for a bit.

  3. Step 3

If your Flight Attendants put on horse blinders--walk right past your raised hand or call light without stopping to ask if you need something--they are over you. Believe that they have assessed if you are having an emergency. They are trained to do it quickly. Know that they are ignoring you. Perhaps you have rang that call bell one too many times.

  4. Step 4

If your Flight Attendants take a very long time to come back, chances are they accidentally forgot, or they do not want to come back and they are hoping you will forget or fall asleep. Perhaps they are tired after the service, or perhaps they are just tired of you.

  5. Step 5

If you are in the galley talking and there is a Flight Attendant there who is finally having dinner, standing in the corner as far away from you as possible, know that unless that crew member is happily engaged in conversation with you, he or she wants you to leave. Do not be surprised if the seatbelt sign mysteriously comes on although there is no turbulence.

  6. Step 6

When you exit the aircraft at the end of your flight, and your Flight Attendants say "Buh Bye, Bye, Buh Bye" to each passenger leaving, with either a tight, forced grin, or no grin at all, it has been a demanding flight and you can not get off fast enough for them. Please do not stop to ask anymore questions. Your flight is over. Go home. Please watch your step as you exit the aircraft.

Tips & Warnings
  • Everyone on the airplane has needs, not just you. Recognize this and do not wear your crew out with repeated demands.
