How to Make a Burned Design Picture Frame

Create this frame over and over with different burn designs to coordinate all the photos in a room.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Kitchen foil
• Chinagraph pencil
• Tin snips
• Oak or ash frame
• Heat gun
• Safety gloves
• Sandpaper
• Raw sienna pigment
• Clear wax
• Soft cloths

1. Draw your design on foil using the chinagraph pencil. Cut the design out with the tin snips. Place the foil template on the bare frame.

2. Scorch the design into the wood holding the heat gun about 4 to 6 inches away from the wood. Sand off the over-burns and smooth the wood all the way around the frame.

3. Mix 1/4 teaspoon of the raw sienna pigment with 1 tablespoon of clear wax. Apply the pigmented wax to the frame using soft cloths.

4. Polish the wax to a soft sheen using a dry, clean cloth.
