Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Kitchen foil
  • Chinagraph pencil
  • Tin snips
  • Oak or ash frame
  • Heat gun
  • Safety gloves
  • Sandpaper
  • Raw sienna pigment
  • Clear wax
  • Soft cloths
  1. Step 1

Draw your design on foil using the chinagraph pencil. Cut the design out with the tin snips. Place the foil template on the bare frame.

  2. Step 2

Scorch the design into the wood holding the heat gun about 4 to 6 inches away from the wood. Sand off the over-burns and smooth the wood all the way around the frame.

  3. Step 3

Mix 1/4 teaspoon of the raw sienna pigment with 1 tablespoon of clear wax. Apply the pigmented wax to the frame using soft cloths.

  4. Step 4

Polish the wax to a soft sheen using a dry, clean cloth.
