How to share files with all your MSN Messenger buddies

So you have a lot of friends on MSN Messenger that you chat with for work or play. You end up knee deep in a conversation only to find out that the other person does not understand what you are talking about. Wouldn't it be great if you could send them the picture or file of what you are talking about. A picture says 1000 words and now so can you by sending files through MSN Messenger.

Things You’ll Need:

• Computer
• Internet connection
• MSN Messenger installed
• A Buddy
• File to Send

1. Open your MSN Messenger by clicking the shortcut in your start menu or on your desktop. Sign in with your unique username and password.
2. Open a message box to the friend you want to send a file to. Along the top of the box there are icons. Click on the "Share Files icon which is the second one; a folder with two figures in front of it.
3. Browse your computer until you find the file you want to send and click ok.
4. Your contact will have to be accepted for the file to go through. Once your buddy accepts the file it will download to them.
5. You will be able to view the progress of the download or see that the file is not accepted in the window.

Tips & Warnings

• Large files can be turned into .zip files to shorten the transer time. This can be done using freeware.
• Never send a virus. If you are unsure if the file is clean then email it to yourself. Using a simple virus scan through email will let you know without ever opening the file.
• Your friend must be logged in and accept the transfer. They must keep the window open until the completed message appears.
• Don't send anything that you would not want others to see. This is not a super secure file transfer.
• Never accept a file that a buddy has not told you about first. It could be a virus.
