Step1
Roger Federer
When entering a crucial match be it in a commercial competition or just a one on one game against a tennis buddy, always approach the game as if it's the last one you'll be playing.
Step2
The pro's play the game mentally rather than physically coz they know that everyone is pretty even in the professional circuit in terms of the physicality of the game.
Step3
The main idea mentally is to play against your opponents weakness. If your opponent is slow then play with a variety of shots including some nasty drop shots and change the pace often. If your playing against a power player then do the same. Always change the pace of the game.
Step4
Play with a killer instincts. Oftentimes in a match there will be a point in the game where your playing poorly or your opponent is. This will be the time that you need to pounce on it. Pull away as much as possible and don't give your opponent any hope for a comeback.
Step5
Finally, be gracious in defeat and humble in victory. This will provide a lasting positive relationship with your opponent and earn their respect as well.
