The cost of water and sewer services is going up. Some areas of the country have already seen a 42% increase in their bills. Conserving water is going to become a hot topic. Make an effort to check on wasted water before you have to pay so much more for it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two liter drink bottle
  • Gravel or sand
  • 16 oz drink bottle
  • Two bricks
  1. Step 1

Take the toilet tank lid off and put it down on a towel or rug in a safe place. With it's size and weight, they can break more easily than you'd think.

  2. Step 2

Fill a two liter drink bottle about two inches full with gravel or sand. Fill the rest of the bottle up with water. Screw the lid back on tightly.

  3. Step 3

Place the bottle in the bottom of the toilet tank. Make sure that it is in the end away from the flushing mechanism.

  4. Step 4

Flush the toilet to see if it works as well as it always did. This means that the bowl empties fully and as quickly as before. If you have to re-flush the toilet for it to work properly, the bottle is too big,

  5. Step 5

Try a 16oz drink bottle, filled with gravel and water. If that still doesn't work for you, try two bricks. Play with items until you find one that takes up space and still allows the toilet to flush effectively.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't use items that could open or tear up over time in the tank or you'll have a mess of gravel or sand to deal with later on.
