Be Perfect
Be Perfect

In my work as an organizer I meet many people who feel like they're running as fast as possible but not getting where they want to go.

I've learned about three common blocks that keep people from the "Be" mindset.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1
BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE

BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE

Old paradigm: DO so you can HAVE so you can BE.
New paradigm: BE so you can DO so you can HAVE.

The first paradigm shows the belief that what we HAVE determines who we will BE.

To BE is to know you are more than the material things around you. It is to know nothing is necessary to have in order to BE who you are.

  2. Step 2
    BE PASSION

    BE PASSION

Why is it that one can HAVE everything they want and feel empty and unhappy? How is it that another person can have a very long "wish list" and BE happy and fulfilled?

Happiness and fulfillment are not created by material items. It is always how we experience who we are moment to moment that creates our happiness -- not what we HAVE -- but who we are BEING and what we're DOING.

Unhappiness surfaces when we sacrifice who we are BEING for the sake of HAVING more. When we do that, we will never HAVE enough.

  3. Step 3
    BE INSPIRATION

    BE INSPIRATION

The new paradigm shows the belief of who we are BEING (our values and vision), what we DO (our mission) and what we HAVE is enough.

As an organizer I find this concept extremely useful when assisting others in removing clutter and muddled up energy in too many possessions.

  4. Step 4
    BE JOY

    BE JOY

Lynne Twist states it very eloquently:
"If we let go of what we're trying to get more of, which we really don't need, it frees up reserves of vitality to make a difference with what we have. When you make a difference with what you have, it expands. This applies to love, to time, to relationships -- and, of course, to money. If you sit down and make a difference with the money that you have, you will find that your experience of it expands, and you don't have that focus on scrambling to get more of what you don't really need -- which is what most of us are so busy doing that we don't even notice who we are and what we have. By contrast, the context of sufficiency is making a difference with who you are, what you have, and knowing that it's whole, complete, and exactly enough. It's perfection."

  5. Step 5
    BE PEACE

    BE PEACE

BE so you can DO so you can HAVE --

Three common challenges block your ability to BE. Identify which of the following are blocks for you.

    • Clear focus and intention about priorities -- who you want to be and what you want to do

    • Organized time -- planning specific activities to accomplish those priorities

    • Executing/ implementing the plan -- following through with your word and taking committed action

  6. Step 6
    BE LOVE

    BE LOVE

You may find that you are challenged by a combination of the above, or that you are really good at two areas, but consistently fall short in a third. Awareness is the first step. Changing habits is the second.
