Things You'll Need:
- Motivation and determination
- Knowledge
-
Step 1
Many people are interested in becoming a vegetarian but think it will be too difficult to give up meat. By setting a plan that tackles vegetarianism in small, educated steps you can make the transition easily. The first step should involve completely eliminating red meat from your diet and replacing it with another substitute once or more a week such as soy, wheat or bean protein. During this stage you should also begin to read and learn about vegetarianism and the foods vegetarians eat.
-
Step 2
After you have successfully eliminated red meat from your diet, the next step to becoming a vegetarian is to stop eating chicken, pork and other land animals from your diet. You can make the same recipes that you have always made but substitute vegetarian options such as wheat gluten or soy protein.
-
Step 3
The final step towards becoming a vegetarian is to remove all animals from your meals including fish. By the time you have reached this stage you should be well educated in the alternatives available to you such as tofu, seitan and pre-made substitutions available at most grocery stores and online.
-
Step 4
Some vegetarians continue their journey by next eliminating all animal based products such as gelatin foods like marshmallow and jello, dairy products and eggs. If you cannot become a vegan then you can at least educate yourself on the industry and be certain to purchase these items from sources that rely on natural and organic practices.
