Walking is great exercise, but for many, it can be very boring and tedious. Here are some ways to make it more interesting and enjoyable.

From Quick Guide: Walking It Off
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • An iPod or CD player
  • A pet (yours or the neighbor's)
  • Good walking shoes and thick socks
  1. Step 1

Put on your thick socks (to absorb the sweat) and good walking shoes. Having a comfortable walk makes a big difference!

  2. Step 2

Choose some upbeat music for your CD player or iPod and walk to its tempo. This will help add life to your walk, and keep you moving at a faster rate.

  3. Step 3

If you don't have a pet, offer to walk your neighbor's dog for them. They will welcome the help, and you will have a friendly companion.

  4. Step 4

While walking, stop and smell your neighbors flowers along the way. This will stimulate your senses while making you feel more alive and free.

  5. Step 5

Try repeating a mantra, such as "I am ALIVE" or " I am skinny", while you walk. This will help you develop a rhythm and groove.

  6. Step 6

Set up mini-scavenger hunts for yourself, and see if you can find objects, such as feathers or rosemary.

Tips & Warnings
  • Setting daily distance goals can also introduce a competitive element to your walks, making them more exciting.
  • Don't overdo it at first or it will become easy to give up. Start out slowly.
