Things You'll Need:
- Computer
-
Step 1
List your previous jobs. Include the company name, your title, and dates of employment.
-
Step 2
List accomplishments at each position. Don't just list job duties--instead, explain things you achieved. For example, say "Implemented a more efficient system for filing data" rather than "Filed data."
-
Step 3
Use active verbs. Instead of "Was a go-between for customers and engineers," say "Managed relationships between customers and engineers."
-
Step 4
Tailor your resume to the position and company you are applying for. If your most recent job isn't very relevant to the position you are applying for, you might not want to use too much space listing your accomplishments at that job. Instead, devote more time to a more relevant position.
-
Step 5
Highlight your strong points. If you are a recent grad without much work experience, you might want to put your education info first. You can include things such as honor societies, leadership positions in student organizations, etc. If you have worked at one job for a long time, spend more time describing the specific things you have accomplished there.
-
Step 6
Search resume formats online to get ideas. Format your resume so that it looks clean and is easy to read. Stick to basic fonts like Times and Arial.
-
Step 7
Many people now apply for jobs online, but if you are applying in person, you may want to print your resume out on high quality paper. Choose something that looks professional and isn't over-the-top.
