Grow an oak tree and give something to the next generation. Your kids will love to watch them grow and it can be quite a learning experience

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1. Acorns
  • 2. Container
  • 3. Dirt

Step1
Find a oak tree Where you are allowed to gather some acorns. I found a white oak and a red oak in my neighborhood.
Step2
When the acorns start to fall off the tree gather as many as you want to plant. It is best to get them right off the tree before they fall to the ground.
Step3
Add some dirt to your container drop in your acorn cover with some more dirt. In a few weeks it will germinate.
Step4
Celebrate Arbor Day by planting your tree. Make sure you protect your tree from the lawn mower . you can use wooden stakes or use tomato cages until your tree gets big enough.

Tips & Warnings

  • Fill up a bucket of water and give your acorns the float test. Toss the floaters out it probably has a weevil living in there.
  • Keep dirt slightly moist and allow them lots of sunlight.
  • For a container reuse a Styrofoam cup its another added bonus recycling a coffee cup.
  • If you have kids get them involved decorating your recycled containers.
