    See a doctor!

So you're diagnosed with diabetes-if you are an adult you most likely have diabetes type 2-or non insulin requiring diabetes. Although this type of diabetes has somewhat of a link to diet and fat tissue it really isn't caused by eating sweets and usually comes on in adulthood. Some of the symptoms can include drinking an abnormal amount of fluids, urinating a lot, and possible weight loss. Your doctor can diagnose this also with blood tests.

  2. Step 2
    Check your blood sugar!

    Check your blood sugar!

Once you're diagnosed with diabetes or "sugar" you will need to check your blood sugar daily as directed by your health care provider. Your blood sugar (glucose) readings will tell you if your medication is controlling your diabetes. Keep a record of your readings in your log book.

  3. Step 3
    Exercise regularly

Take your medication as directed. If you aren't on insulin there are various types of medication you can take by mouth which will lower your blood sugar (glucose) readings. This will help control your diabetes.

    Don't smoke

Medication is only one part of controlling your diabetes. You have to control your weight which means nutritious foods, and regular exercise. Walking 30-40 minutes 3-4 times weekly will help control your blood sugar as well as helping to control your blood pressure

  5. Step 5
    Diabetes affects your eyes
