Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Passport
  • Computer with Internet access

    By Plane

  1. Step 1

Jot down a list of budget European and British airlines and check their websites for deals to Belfast.

  2. Step 2

If you're traveling to Derry/Londonderry, you may find some cheap flights going there as well. Also check flights from Edinburgh, which is less than an hour's train journey from Glasgow.

  3. Step 3

Take one of the buses that go from the airport into Belfast city center.

  4. By Train & Ferry

  5. Step 1

There is a website on which you can book ferry travel from Stranraer (a West Coast port in Scotland) to Belfast. The ferry generally takes around 2 hours, but you should be at the Stranraer port at least 1 1/2 hours before your ferry is set to leave.

  6. Step 2

Book your ferry travel first and then find a train from Glasgow to Stranraer that will get you there with time to spare. If you have a rental car, you may drive to the Stranraer port and put your vehicle on the ferry as well.

  7. Step 3

If you are traveling from other parts of Scotland, check the rail routes to find the easiest way to arrive at Stranraer.

  8. Step 4

The ferries that operate on this route are generally quite large, with restaurants, bars, and shops. Try to find a seat as soon as possible, in case it is very crowded.

  9. Step 5

Once you arrive in the Belfast port, you may take a bus to the city centre. There are also buses that travel to Derry/Londonderry and other parts of Northern Ireland.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check to make sure all rail lines are running normally before you set off.
  • Try to avoid rush hour in Glasgow (7am to 9am and 4pm to 6pm), especially if you have luggage you are bringing on, as it can get extremely crowded.
  • Do NOT wear any football (soccer) strips, as many have sectarian affiliations. Before you board the ferry, there are notices that no football chants may be sung on the boat, as there is still a good deal of tension surrounding sectarianism.
