Get a Free Haircut

Haircutters in training are required to complete hours of actual hands-on experience before getting certified, so it's not hard to find stylists willing to give you a free haircut in exchange for the practical training time you are offering them. They are supervised by a certified hairstylist so you don't have to worry about going in as a Marilyn Monroe type and coming out like a cartoon. Here's how to get a free haircut.

From Quick Guide: Groom's Guide to Grooming
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If you are in or near New York city, call 866-7-BUMBLE to reach Bumble and Bumble hair salon and arrange for your free haircut.

Also try Carsten Institute of Hair and Beauty at 212-675-7735.

  2. Step 2

In Chicago, Tirra Salon and Spa will cater to your free budget and give you a free consultation and cut if you call ahead to book. 312-951-8255 is their number.

  3. Step 3

If you are in San Francisco, call the Joseph Cozza salon. www.josephcozzasalon.com or call them at 415-433-3030 and set up your appointment.

  4. Step 4

If you are not near any of the major cities listed, make sure to visit the additional resources link at the end of this article for a variety of states with salons offering free haircuts.

Tips & Warnings
  • Bring in photos to show your stylist so you can have the same idea in mind for you.
  • If you don't live near one of the major cities and just need a trim, often going to a barber shop versus a salon and asking for a straight-forward trim will save you lots of money.
  • The chinatown sections of major cities often offer haircuts at a fraction of the price that their city center competitors charge.
  • Talk about your likes and dislikes openly so there are no surprises.

on 8/21/2008 While you are doing them a service by allowing them to get hands-on training, they are also doing you a service by cutting your hair, so take care of them with a nice tip! You still get the free haircut and you would tip at the salon anyway so you still walk out ahead!
