Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- Guests
- 2 televisions
- 3 rooms
- Kitchen
Step1
Have 2 television rooms. One, of course, is for the game. The other one is for people who don't want to watch the game, but might like to see some of the good movies and shows that will be on at the same time. Have a few DVDs or videos around for other choices.
Step2
Have one room that's at least semi-calm. You can use it for playing games or sitting around and chatting, and it can be a sanctuary for the one or two people who develop headaches or just get tired of the noise in the other rooms. It's perfectly acceptable for someone to enjoy your party by sitting and snacking while they read a book!
Step3
The kitchen is for food and all that stuff. Salty things, spicy things, sweet things, cold things, hot things, bread...all the usual stuff. Plan for food you can do ahead of time, or just pour out of a bag into a bowl. Crockpots are great, and so are potluck contributions. If someone asks if they can bring something, ask them to bring their favorite munchie. Find out what it is, because that's one thing you won't have to make!
Step4
Make everything painless--for your guests AND for you. If you're okay with it, use sturdy disposables for everything. If not, just set out stacks of dishes and utensils and have one big plastic tote for the dirtys to go in. Fill it halfway with hot soapy water and put the lid on. The water level will rise as people add dishes. You can handle all that later. Make it an easy process.
Step5
This really is number one: ENJOY YOURSELF! You've worked hard to make your guests comfortable. Do the same thing for yourself. Set things up so that it's a party YOU enjoy. Make sure there's plenty of YOUR favorite party food. Make sure you have a comfortable place to relax, to watch the game or chat with your guests. And even if you're not a football fan, get in there and watch some of the commercials. Sometimes that's the best part of the game!

on 1/12/2008 LOL! I'm with you. The best Super Bowl party I ever went to, a bunch of us left for an hour and went thrift shopping, then went back for half-time. Then we sat in the garage and compared our purchases.
And personally, my favorite place anytime is a dark closet, with a flashlight and a good book. And of course a warm blankie, and my kitties.
Thanks for commenting!

on 1/12/2008 I liked your idea of having two rooms to include the people who do not want to watch the game. Really for me I would love a dark closet, flashlight, and a good book. Maybe a warm blankie?
