Patch a Hole Using Toothpaste
Patch a Hole Using Toothpaste

Have you ever moved, and needed to patch holes in the walls or wood, fast, but didn’t have drywall putty on hand? Try this to make a quick patch!!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Toothpaste (a white toothpaste like Colgate works best)
  • Putty or butter knife
  • Sand paper
  • Paint
  1. Step 1

Using sand paper, clean the surface edges of the hole.

  2. Step 2

Squeeze toothpaste into hole, relieving the air bubbles from the tube first.

  3. Step 3

Using the putty or butter knife, push the toothpaste into the hole and scrape the excess off the surface.

  4. Step 4

Let the toothpaste dry for 20 to 30 minutes.

  5. Step 5

Use sand paper, once again, to smooth the surface. Prime and paint the hole as necessary--hole patched!!

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you get all the air bubbles out of the paste to avoid cracking.

on 5/25/2008 I use toothpaste all the time. I don't sand it though. I smooth it when I apply the toothpaste to the wall!
