Make a Christmas Card Ball

Not sure what to do with all the old Christmas cards? Why not do something creative with them, like the following Christmas card ball? It's easy and fun!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Last year’s Christmas cards, and any other old cards you don’t want to save
  • Glue stick
  • Ribbon
  • Cardboard from a tablet of paper
  • Cup or glass with a 2- or 3-inch diameter
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Hole-punch
  1. Step 1

Take the cup or glass and place it on the cardboard piece. Trace the cup so you have a circle on the cardboard and cut it out.

  2. Step 2

Repeat Step 1, but this time do not cut it out until you have drawn a triangle inside the circle; cut the triangle out of the circle.

  3. Step 3

Using the cardboard circle piece, trace circles around your favorite sections of your Christmas cards. Cut each circle out. Use your eraser to take off any pencil marks that may be remaining on the card.

  4. Step 4

With each circle card piece, place the triangle cardboard piece in the center of the circle; fold each circle edge around the sides of the triangle to form creases.

  5. Step 5

Beginning with 2 pieces, glue each card circle together at the folded edges of each circle to form a ball.

  6. Step 6

Use a hole-punch to place a hole at the top of the ball; pull a piece of ribbon or ornament hanger through the hole and hang it on the tree!

Tips & Warnings
  • Utilize the colors in the cards to create magical balls.
  • Use a little glitter around the edges to make them shine.
  • Create your own Christmas circles, or have the kids draw pictures on plain circles (use card stock paper) to create one-of-a-kind gifts!
  • Use different sized circles and triangles for smaller or bigger ornaments!
