Things You'll Need:
- hair dye of your choice
- hair long enough to put into pig tails
-
Step 1
choose the dye you would like to use. keep in mind darker hair will usually require darker colored dyes to make your hair really stand out, and not just be a subtle change.
-
Step 2
split your hair evenly with a tail comb or your fingers all the way back and down to the nape of your neck
-
Step 3
may be hard to see, but you can estimate how much of my hair was tipped. i did it myselfwhen you make the pig tails make sure they are even and centered. place the pig tails straight down below your temples so that the hair in the is all the same length and pulled to the same length. this is tricky. you don't want it pulled towards the back of your head or the front will be a different length when dyed. unless that is the look you are going for. don't pull the bands too close to your head. position the hair tyes whereever you want the hair dye color to begin. i have hair down to just below my shoulders. i usually aim for about 2 inches below my ears. that way about just over a third of my hair is tipped. pull the bands very tight on your hair so they can't move and mess up the line you have so very carefully created.
-
Step 4
apply the dye and start at the bottom. you should only need one bottle. if you have very think hair get two just in case. when you get to the band it will take a while to color as you have to get it all the way to the center. pull apart very very small sections without moving the hair bands and saturate the strands. GET EVERY SINGLE HAIR. failure to do so will create a jagged bend in the hair line as the line will be moved down to where you properly applied the dye. use as much dye as you need, but get it all and make sure it is as close to the pig tail as possible.
-
Step 5
follow the steps in the hair dye insert for dye timing. i wait 45 minutes no matter what the color.
