How to Install a Yahoo! Widget to Your Desktop

Along side the most popular disk operation system on the planet, MS Windows, come a variety of great utility programs and desktop enhancement applications. As the popularity of these applications increased, they eventually became so widely used that they were dubbed the name "widgets." What is a widget? It is a desktop application or utility that makes things easier such as, a notepad, a weather checker or a stock ticker. If you have ever wanted to install one of these on your desktop, here is exactly how you do it. Read on to learn how to install a Yahoo! widget to your desktop.

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet connection
  • Windows 98/ME/XP/Vista
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

    Sign up for Yahoo! and select the widget that you want. You will need to have a Yahoo! user account (which is free) in order to start downloading and installing widgets. If you do not have one you can easily sign up for free. Once you have visit the resources link at the bottom of this page, you can sign in and download, and use Yahoo! Widgets.

  2. Step 2

    Download the widget. Once you have signed in to Yahoo! Widgets, you can select from thousands of widgets to download, or you can even use their easy online widget creator and make your own custom widgets.

  3. Step 3

    Install the widget. Installation is a snap. When you sign up for Yahoo! Widgets, they will prompt you to download their widget management software; you need this installed on your desktop before you can begin using widgets. Once this is, simply click on the widgets you want to download and save the files to your desktop. Once the file has saved, click the icon on your desktop to install it. Follow the installation wizard steps and you will easily have the widgets you like installed and ready for use in no time at all.

  4. Step 4

    Use the widget. Now that you have your widgets installed, you can modify them, set the preferences and even combine them. Enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try creating your own widget. You will find them much more usable if they have the exact features you are looking for.
  • Don’t run too many widgets at once. This could slow down your computer speed.
