Things You'll Need:
- 5 bars (20 oz.) bittersweet chocolate, like Ghiradelli, chopped and divided
- 6 Tbs. Butter
- 1/2 Cup Kahlua
- 6 eggs seperated, and at room temperature
- 3/4 Cup Sugar
-
Step 1
Heat oven to 350. In double boiler over med. heat, bring water to a simmer, or set heat-proof bowl over a pot filled with 2" simmering water, making sure bottom of bowl is not touching water. Add 3 chocolate bars, butter and kahlua. Cook until melted and then remove from heat and cool until room temp.
-
Step 2
Beat egg yolks and sugar with your electric mixer on high for approx. 3 minutes or until thickened. Fold in cooled chocolate mix. In separate bowl mix egg whites 5 minutes or until stiff peaks form. Fold egg whites into chocolate mix and then pour into 9" cake pan coated with bakers joy.
-
Step 3
Bake 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean. Cool cake for 10 minutes then remove from the pan and cool completely.
-
Step 4
Mix 1/2 cup boiling water and remaining chocolate in med. size mixing bowl, let sit 2 minutes. Stir until smooth, and then let cool 2 minutes. Pour chocolate over cake to coat, and chill before serving.
