How to Study Star Wars in Your Classroomthumbnail
Kids Love Star Wars!

I have been teaching Kindergarten since 1996 and my "Star Wars" thematic unit is my absolute favorite. While the other classes at my school are studying fairy tales, we are studying "Star Wars." (It is, after all, a modern day fairy tale.) This unit covers all the academic stands of kindergarten (and would be fine for first grade as well). Here is how to study "Star Wars"--and may the force be with you.

    Things You'll Need

    • Star Wars decorations, books, puzzles, action figures
      • 1

Decorate your classroom like you would for a birthday party. I have been collecting these "Star Wars" standees for over 10 years. They are easily available on the Internet for about $30 each. Buy one the first year and just add one every year.

      • 2

Buy some "Star Wars" coloring books for the kids to color.

      • 3

Play Star Wars Mystery Person and Reverse Mystery Person. Star Wars Mystery Person is a game in which the kids brainstorm names and an adult writes them on the board for the kids to copy. With Reverse Mystery Person they are given a list of names and have to cross them out one at a time.

      • 4

Do "Star Wars" art. I have the kids paint pictures of their favorite characters.

      • 5

        Paint the "Star Wars" logo.

      • 6

        Do "Star Wars" word searches.

      • 7

Buy some "Star Wars" jigsaw puzzles for the kids to solve.

      • 8

Play the "Star Wars" matching game. I line up "Star Wars" action figures and the kids have to write the names of the characters on a sheet of paper. They copy the names off the board.

      • 9

Buy "Star Wars" books for the kids to read.

      • 10

Do "Star Wars" language arts. We write about a different character each day.

      • 11

        Do "Star Wars" cutting exercises.
