How to Keep the Drinks Coming During a Busy Night at the Bar

On a crowded Saturday night, your average bartender doesn’t care who you are or how much money the bar is making (unless they’re also the sole proprietor), as long as they’re stuffing virtually non-taxable cash into their pockets. This makes it tough for your average crowd to be noticed enough to keep the drinks flowing left and right. But if you consider these tips, you’ll be able to ensure your friends a great night out.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Money
  • Group of friends
  • Dignity (negotiable)
  1. Step 1

Before going to the bar, collect $5-$10 from each of your friends and try to make a “tip-pot” of anywhere from $50-$100, depending on the size of your group and where you’re going.

  2. Step 2

Pick out your prime real estate spot somewhere on the bar as soon as you walk in. This will keep you right where you need to be in order to get the bartender’s attention the whole time while still being able to turn around and hang out with your friends.

  3. Step 3

Go cheap on drinks, not on tip. Keep your first round or two full of simple drinks such as beer, rum & coke, vodka & club, etc. Stay away from drinks that are too time-consuming for the bartender.

  4. Step 4

Throw down half of your tip pot that you brought with you once you get the first round. You’ll be noticed at the large sum of money you’ve put down just for your bartender, and they will keep their eye on you all night now.

  5. Step 5

From there, make sure your bartender always sees that your putting down some amount of money each time they hand you a drink. Save the rest of the tip pot for the end of your night as a final “job well done.” Just never forget that initial big-sum tip ... you’ll even get more bang for your buck that way (think 2:1 rum to coke ratios, not the other way around).

  6. Step 6

Your bartender is tired of hearing about everyone’s problems/solutions, hirings/firings, and so on. So let them talk to you. They won’t really care much about your stories by the end of the night, and they’ll just want to finally tell theirs. Be a good listener.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have the number of a cab in your cell-phone before going out. It's an easy back-up as a driving solution.
  • Drink responsibility, and don't be a total derelict once you get a few drinks in you.
  • Don't drink and drive.
