Attending a fireworks show on the fourth of July is a popular tradition. Not only are fourth of July fireworks a great way to end the holiday week, but they are also a fun safe way for the whole family to celebrate together. Fireworks shows vary from the small local ones to huge spectacles that display can last up to 20 minutes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find out where the local fireworks displays will be on the fourth of July. Most large cities have several shows, including large ones and numerous smaller ones. While the larger ones are often organized in the most scenic parts of the city, they tend to get more crowded, making it sometimes difficult to get a good view.

  2. Step 2

Check for changes in public transportation, parking issues and closed streets before you leave home. They may affect how long it will take you to get there and what areas you will be able to access.

  3. Step 3

Arrive early. Go to the front of the line and look for empty spots near the area from which the fireworks will start. This is especially important if the show is organized near water, as it will give you the best view of the light reflection.

  4. Step 4

Bring drinks and snacks with you when you go see the fourth of July fireworks. Once you take your place, you probably will not be able to move again until the show is over. Remember to bring only plastic bottles, as security measures may prohibit glass or metal containers near the show.

  5. Step 5

Go to a Fourth of July fireworks show that features entertainment before the display. If you don't have anything planned for the day (such as a BBQ or a picnic), attending a pre-fireworks show will give you the whole experience. Music, live performances and artists are often present.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you can drive out of the city on the fourth of July, head to a larger nearby area. Not only will the shows be more impressive, but you can make a day out of it by organizing a small picnic or drive through the countryside.
  • Some firework shows only allow people to get closer to the center of the action until a certain time before closing out the streets. Find out the time and arrive early.
  • If you can't go to the show itself, find the closest place from where you can see the fireworks. Sometimes a tall building or a terrace may be enough.
