Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Wait for the ideal wave. You can either ride atop a wave as it crashes on the beach, or wait for the wave to recede back into the ocean.
Step2
Run alongside the wave with your skimboard in hand. Work up some good speed.
Step3
Toss your skimboard onto the water. Shuffle the skimboard forward so it maintains speed as you run alongside it.
Step4
Run onto the moving skimboard. This technique, known as the "one step," is the most fundamental skimboarding move. If you jump onto the board immediately, you'll kill its momentum. Expect that you'll need some practice to master this move.
Step5
Ride the wave. This complete technique is known as the "run-drop-slide." Two other moves, known as "pumping" and "sidesliding," can be used to help you keep your speed as the wave dissipates beneath you.
Step6
Increase your board's speed by using a lubricating wax. There are many kinds of board waxes sold at surfing shops. While your board will glide much more quickly and smoothly after being waxed, it also means that sand won't stick to it.
Step7
Position your feet properly to stay on your board. Your back foot should always be towards the back of your board. If you stand too far forward on your board, it be difficult to keep your balance.
