How to Import Email Messages to SBCglobal From Another Client

As time goes by, many people tend to collect more and more email addresses. Some people have over 10 email accounts they take the time to manage every day. It can take 10 minutes or more just to check on two or three email accounts on different servers, depending on the Internet connection speed. If you have email messages to read, junk mail to delete and other management issues, checking email can take a long time. You can import email messages from another email client into your SBCglobal account to save time. You can import email from a maximum of five other email accounts.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Collect the server settings (both incoming and outgoing) for the email addresses you want to check through your SBCglobal web-based email account.

  2. Step 2

Log into your SBCglobal account with your member ID and password.

  3. Step 3

Look on the right side of the screen for the "Mail Options" link and click the link.

  4. Step 4

Find and click the "Mail Accounts" link under the "Management" column. Click the "Add" button to create a new email client to retrieve your other email messages.

  5. Step 5

Use the "Configure Account Manually" link near the upper-right area of the webpage.

  6. Step 6

Name the account you want to check, such as "My Old Account." Type the name in the appropriate box.

  7. Step 7

Choose the name you want others to see when they receive email from the account you are creating. If the name has been an email address, you can enter it in the form. For example, your email will be "from" myname@hotmail.com, but it will actually be sent through the SBCglobal (AT&T Yahoo!) servers. Type the name in the "Sending Mail" area by the word "From."

  8. Step 8

Provide the full email address you want to check with this account in the box beside "Email."

  9. Step 9

Type in the POP (POP3) incoming server in the appropriate field, such as pop.hotmail.com or mail.mymail.com (Most email uses POP3).

  10. Step 10

Provide the name you use to access email messages in the email client you will check with this account. The ID may be the letters/numbers before the "@" symbol, but in other email systems, the username may be the entire email address.

  11. Step 11

Type in the password for the account you want checked in the "Password" box.

  12. Step 12

Choose the color you want to represent email messages from this particular account (simply click the color).

  13. Step 13

Send the files from the email client to a specified folder to sort the email automatically. You can leave this option blank and simply look for the emails in the "Inbox."

  14. Step 14

Provide POP port numbers if they are different from the standard 110. Choose to take messages off another email client or to leave them on the other client (you will have to manage the account still). You can also choose to download only new messages.

  15. Step 15

Finish the process of setting up another email client to check for messages by clicking the "Setup Mail Server" button. You may have to go through a verification process to finalize the connection to the email servers and import your messages.

Tips & Warnings
  • Create new email accounts to sort email from different sources. For example, use one email only for purchases, one for communicating with friends and family and another all-purpose email for forums, blogs or other membership-based sites.
  • You have to click the button to have your SBCglobal account check the email messages from other email clients. However, you won't have to go through the password process for each account.
