With the merger of SBCglobal with AT&T and the subsequent partnership with Yahoo!, a new opportunity to create a bigger and more personal presence on the Internet emerged. SBCglobal account holders can use the same user name (or member id) and password they have always used with SBCglobal to access all of the features of Yahoo! mail. You can create a personal avatar (picture of yourself or computer-generated likeness or other personal picture) and provide information so others can learn more about you. You can set your personal information up within a few minutes via your account on the Web.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to the Yahoo! login page (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Use your full SBCglobal email address in the box next to "Yahoo! ID." In the "Password" box, type in the password you use with your SBCglobal email address.

  3. Step 3

Find the "Options" link on the Yahoo! page. Click the "Options" link.

  4. Step 4

Look on the "Options" webpage, and click the "Account Information" link.

  5. Step 5

Provide your SBCglocal password again in the appropriate box under your Yahoo! ID. Yahoo! asks for the password again as a step to provide proper security for the account.

  6. Step 6

Look for the "Edit/Create Profiles" on the right side of the webpage under the title "Public Information." You should see your member ID under the words "Public profiles." Click the link to create the profile.

  7. Step 7

Select the "Create New Public Profile" button at the top of the webpage.

  8. Step 8

Create a name for the profile you want to setup in the first white box at the top of the page. You can use any name you like using lowercase letters and numbers. The name must begin with a letter and consist of a single word.

  9. Step 9

Fill out the rest of the form with information regarding your name, location, hobbies and anything else you think people should know about you.

  10. Step 10

Limit the age of people who can view your information by designating the profile as an "adult profile." Be aware of who might be visiting your adults-only profile and the types of messages you may receive.

  11. Step 11

Leave the check mark next to the words "Add this profile to the Yahoo! Member Directory" if you want this information available to anyone who finds you on the Web.

  12. Step 12

Set the new personal information profile up on the Web by clicking the "Create Profile" button at the bottom of the webpage.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't give out too much personal information on the web for everyone to see. Provide just enough information so people know who you are and can ask you for more information if they want. While there are many nice people on the Web, there are predators set on taking advantage of you as well.
