Outlook Express allows people to check a number of different email accounts from various providers. All you have to do is provide the proper information so the program knows where to look to find your email account. In just a few minutes, you can set up Outlook Express to check your SBCglobal email for you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Find the Outlook Express icon on your desktop or in the "Start" menu of your computer, and click it (or double-click it) to open the program.
Step2
Wait a moment for the Internet Connection Wizard to help you through the setup process. If this isn't the first time using Outlook Express or the wizard doesn't start automatically, click the following options in order, "Tools," "Accounts," "Add" and "Mail."
Step3
Look for a black dot in the circle next to "Create a new Internet mail account." Click the circle if the dot isn't present. Click the "Next" button. If this isn't your first time using Outlook Express, you may not see this option.
Step4
Come up with a name for the SBCglobal email account, such as "SBC for ME," and type the account name in the box on the screen. Press the "Enter" key on your keyboard or click the "Next" button.
Step5
Type your complete SBCglobal.net email address (everything before and after the "@" symbol) in the box asking for your email. Click the "Next" button at the bottom of the window or hit the "Enter" key.
Step6
Select the POP3 option from the drop-down menu next to "My incoming mail server is a."
Step7
Look for the box under "Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server," and type in "pop.att.yahoo.com" in the box.
Step8
Add "smtp.att.yahoo.com" in the box near "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server," and click the "Next" button.
Step9
Specify your SBCglobal email account for Outlook Express to access. Type your full SBCglobal email address in the field next to "Account Name." Write your SBCglobal email password in the box next to the word "Password."
Step10
Choose whether or not you want Outlook Express to check your email for you automatically while using the program. Place a check mark in the box next to "Remember Password" to allow Outlook Express constant access to your email.
Step11
Finish the setup portion of the process with the wizard's help by clicking the "Next" and "Finish" buttons, respectively.
Step12
Set up the proper server ports for email. Click the newly created email account in the "Internet Accounts" window, and then click the "Properties" button.
Step13
Find the box next to "My server requires authentication," and click the box to place a check mark in it.
Step14
Find the "Settings" button, and click the button to open another pop-up window.
Step15
See whether the circle next to "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" has a dot in it (click the circle if it doesn't). Click the "OK" button.
Step16
Go to the "Advanced" tab located at the top of the "Properties" window. Find the fields for "Server Port Numbers." Type in "465" in the box for "Outgoing mail," and place a check mark in the box next to "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)." Add "995" to the field by "Incoming mail (POP3)," and place a check mark in the box next to "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)."
Step17
Set up the program officially by clicking the "OK" and "Close" buttons.

Tips & Warnings

  • If several people use the same computer, you may not want Outlook Express checking your email all of the time. Anyone using the computer can read all of your incoming emails and send messages if Outlook Express provides automatic access to the email account.
