SBCglobal has become one of the largest providers of Internet service in the USA. Recent purchases and mergers have made this subsidiary of AT&T even bigger than it was just a few of years ago. Every week, thousands of people sign up for SBCglobal Internet service and email, which is now known as AT&T Yahoo!.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Go to the SBCglobal (or AT&T) website to view various plans (see Resources below).
Step2
Compare the plans offered by SBCglobal. Click the "Check Availability" button under your desired plan.
Step3
Provide your zip code in the empty box under "New Customer." You may be directed to another page requiring a telephone number or physical address for the new account. Provide your location information, and wait for AT&T to make sure service is available in your locale.
Step4
Make the final decision on which service plan you want to sign up to use (you can always upgrade service in the future). Click the button to proceed to the checkout webpage for the purchase.
Step5
Fill in the form with your address and payment information. You can call the company to establish the new account over the telephone.
Step6
Create a user name for the new account by typing the name in the appropriate box. Use an account name starting with a number to cut down on spam in the future. It may take several attempts to come up with a unique name for the account.
Step7
Type in a password using a series of letters and numbers. The more letters and numbers you use, the more secure the password is.
Step8
Start using the new SBCglobal (AT&T Yahoo!) email account. Email family and friends to inform them of the email account.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always make sure you check the actual price of any Internet service after the introductory price break has finished.
  • Bundle your Internet and email service with telephone and/or television service to save money on the services.
  • You must have an existing telephone landline to use DSL Internet service. Figure the price of the telephone line in the overall cost of the Internet service.
  • Never give the password for your email account out to anyone, no matter who it is.
  • Don't give out the new email address when you sign up for membership with a forum or any members-only website. Create a separate email address to use for general purposes to cut down drastically on the amount of spam received at the SBCglobal email address.
