Each Freestyle Motocross event features a competitor trying to outdo his competition by performing spectacular stunts. The skills and tricks performed by professional riders continue to grow more complex and difficult with each passing year. However, the Tsunami has been used in all of the major professional competitions over the years, making it a stand-by of pro riders. As you get the moves down for the Motocross Tsunami, you will need to focus on extending your body as much as possible when you do this trick.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Motocross bike
  • Foam landing pit
  • Protective gear
Step1
Take your Motocross bike to the nearest dirt ramp you have experience using. When learning a new trick, it is always a good idea to work in familiar surroundings.
Step2
Take a few dry runs to get used to the ramp conditions.
Step3
Use one last dry run (a dry run is a straight jump with no trick) and think about the timing of the Tsunami during this jump.
Step4
Circle around and align the bike square to the ramp for your first attempt at the Motocross Tsunami.
Step5
Imagine each step you will take on your first attempt of the Tsunami, from speeding up to the trick movements and landing. It is much better to know exactly what you are doing before you get into the air instead of trying to think your way through the Tsunami in the air.
Step6
Bring the bike up to speed and hit the ramp as you did in your last warm-up run.
Step7
Kick your feet up off the pegs and up over your head as the bike rises into the air. You want to use the momentum of the bike rising to help you get your feet up into the air.
Step8
Straighten your arms so that your body is perfectly square as you do a handstand on the handlebars. Don't try to manipulate the bike at all. The motorcycle should still be relatively horizontal to the ground.
Step9
Bring your feet back down and put them on the pegs. Return to your landing position on the bike.
Step10
Focus on your landing spot and try to hit it with both tires landing at the same time.
Step11
Do the Tsunami again and try to hold the handstand position a little longer than you did the first time. Increase your handstand time on each subsequent try.

Tips & Warnings

  • You need to be able to do a No Footer without any hesitation before you try to do the Tsunami. The Superman is another good trick to have experience with before you try to do the Tsunami.
  • Always wear head-to-toe protective gear.
